How to Host a Fondue Party!

“Fondue” comes from the French word “fondre,” meaning “to melt.”

Chocolate fondue is truly nothing more than good chocolate melted with heavy cream and a liqueur. Sounds like a good party to me! Invite your friends and neighbors for a Holiday Fondue Party. If they ask to bring something suggest wine. You take care of the dippers and chocolate so you don’t end up with too many of one dipper. Shop for your fondue ingredients based on this simple recipe . If you don’t have a fondue melting pot…consider purchasing a fondue fountain! They are so much fun and add to the decadence of the party!

Prepare your chocolate by first melting it on the stovetop in a saucepan. Melt on medium heat and then transfer to melting pot or fountain. Keep it warm throughout the party on a low heat. Display all of your dippers around the melting pot or fountain. I like to have a dozen or so choices of dippers in smaller portions displayed. You can always reload the platter throughout the evening. Especially fruit, we want to keep it fresh so have more in the refrigerator and my favorite, cream puffs, keep them on the verge of thawing. When guests arrive, give each one a colored fondue fork with a charm or something festive to distinguish which is theirs through the evening. You can  also purchase little plastic fondue picks and discard them as the night progresses. I also provide dessert plates to serve on.

Once everyone is present and mingling, pour your liqueur over the chocolate and light to flame. Start out with the marshmallows and toast them in the flame! Don’t be shy as a host, dig right in. Show your guests how it is done by picking up your dessert plate and dipping three of your favorite dippers in the chocolate and mingling through the crowd!  A few times throughout the evening you can pour the liqueur over the chocolate and light to reenact the drama of the flame burning!

Enjoy your evening!
