60 minute rolls

Fabulous homemade roll recipe - easy and melt in your mouth good. Nice compliment to any meal, but especially nice during the holidays or when you have dinner guests.

    Ingredients

  • 3 - 4 cups flour
  • 2 T. yeast
  • 3 T. sugar
  • 1 t. salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 water
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
    Directions

  1. In large bowl, mix 2 cups flour, yeast, sugar and salt. Set aside.
  2. In saucepan heat milk, water and oil until warm.(think bathwater) Pour liquid into dry ingredients and mix well. Continue adding flour until dough is stiff.
  3. On floured surface, knead dough adding additional flour until elastic.
  4. Using same bowl, brush inside surface with additional oil.
  5. Place dough in bowl and set bowl in sink of HOT water. Let rise until double-about 15 minutes.
  6. Punch down dough and shape rolls and place on greased baking sheet or in muffin tins. Let dough rise again 15 minutes while oven is preheating to 350.
  7. Bake rolls for 12-15 minutes until golden. Place rolls on cooling racks and brush with butter.
  8. Cloverleaf-roll dough into 1″ balls and put three balls into each greased muffin tin.
  9. Dinner-roll into 2″ balls and place in greased cake pan-rolls will tough each other.
  10. Crescent-Divide dough in half. Roll each half into large circle, brush with butter and cut into wedges and roll up tightly. Place on greased cookie sheet.

Notes
You can shape rolls any way you prefer-most common are cloverleaf, dinner and crescent. This recipe also works great for cinnamon rolls, hamburger buns etc. Not a good recipe for loaf bread though.
