4 months ago I purchased the Deceptively Delicious Cookbook. I must be honest that I purchased it because it was so darned cute. I related to the cover and thought I would give it a whirl.
I love it. I think it is so clever and the tips in the book make it fun and easy. The basis of it is that you steam your veggies and fruit and slip them into all of your meals. There are easy guides on what foods work best in different meals. She breaks down the process of how to buy the food in large quantities, steam it, blend it and put some in the refrigerator and some in the freezer for future use. It is the best way to “sneak” veggies and fruit into my kids meals that I have found. I still expect them to eat the vegetables I serve as a side, it\’s a bonus that the hidden goods are in the other foods they consume.
One of my favorites is pureed cauliflower in mashed potatoes. They look the same and actually taste quite similar. My family enjoyed the Spaghetti and Meatballs- which has veggies in the meatballs and in the sauce. There is even a brownie recipe that is wonderful.
If you are interested in a new way of sneaking some vitamins and minerals into your family meals…I suggest you check out the book.
We, here at MaiRecipes, would love to hear your healthy homemade concoctions!
Add bran, oats etc to any pancake or waffle batter or even to biscuits. Adds needed fiber and tastes great. Actually adds a nice texture as well. My parents have done this all my life and I never knew till highschool.
This is brilliant!! Even my “I’ll eat anything” kid goes through picky stages. And short of making multiple meals each night for dinner (which I refuse to do), this is a great way to ensure they don’t miss out on the healthy aspects of a meal!! Thanks for the book referral — we’ll definitely be checking it out!!
