Tips I learned from Lifelong Gardener, Larry Stebbins, at our local Garden Club meeting this past month.
- When planting indoor from seeds ‘harden’ your plants each day by setting them outside in the sun for one hour.
- The largest garlic ‘Kettle River’
- Dry veggies, meaning not enough water, will result in bitter veggies.
- Lack of water to radishes makes them hotter in taste!
- Plant garlic in fall (October), mulch and water over winter.
- In fall, add compost and mulch with a hay overlay.
- Avoid putting tree products in compost.
- Try to rotate veggies each season to avoid diseases. Especially peppers, tomatoes and egg plant.
- When watering tomatoes, NEVER get water on their leaves! And tomatoes take less water than most of your other veggies.
- Broccoli and Lettuce take the most water.
- 9am is the best time to water.
- Best carrot is the early carrot- 60 days to harvest!
- Buy corn seeds that are sugar enhanced.
