Wine Party

After my third child was born in early June, my one wish was to host a grown-up wine party before the summer was over . And any pregnant mommy who goes without her favorite drink for 10 months can understand the seriousness and voracity in which I HAD to make this wish come true. Well, July crept into August before I even realized 2 months had passed me by in a blaze of mother-of-three glory. I needed to act — and if I thought I needed a wine party before, I REALLY needed it now. So, I called in an expert from The Traveling Vineyard to help Eric, my husband, and I host our wine tasting event. It was a great partnership! Our wine consultant helped us narrow an endless list of wines to 5 bottles: 2 white and 3 red, that we wanted to share with our guests. All Eric and I had to was come up with a guest list and food pairings for each wine we had selected. That’s when the excitement hit me! We’re going to have a party that doesn’t include cheese pizza and apple juice, balloons or party games!

The date we chose was the first Saturday in October and we decided to go all out with a 5-course dinner. Besides, how often do we host a grown-up party? (Honestly, it’s been so long, I can’t even remember the last one.) The party was such a huge success that I couldn’t wait to share our experience with you. Not only did all of our guests have a great time (and vowed to continue the dinner party invitations), but Eric and I had an absolute blast planning, cooking, decorating and hosting our friends. We enjoyed fabulous wines that our guests were able to order from The Traveling Vineyard, great new recipes that I’m sharing with you today, and the wonderful company of friends and neighbors. My wish came true — even if summer had passed and autumn was upon us — a bonified grown-up wine party took place at MY house. Even parents can be grown-ups when they put their minds to it! You should try it sometime (or at least try a few of our new recipes and let me know what you think)!

  1. Hey J-
If you don’t mind me asking, what was the price point on the wines? I’m always curious about that because I truly don’t believe that price correlates w/great taste regarding wine.

  2. We tasted wines between $11.99 to $19.99. You are right!! You don’t have to pay alot. That’s why I loved using the wine consultant, because their staff travels the world looking for “undiscovered” or up-n-coming vineyards that make good, affordable wines. And our consultant provided 5 bottles of tasting wines for FREE! It was more than enough for a crowd of 15.

  3. Sounds spectacular! A whole evening devoted to grown-ups, hand-picked because they’re fun and aren’t picky eaters…
