How To Thaw your Turkey

raw turkey

Most people will buy their Turkey a couple of days before Thanksgiving.  The best thing to do at that point is to pop it straight into the refrigerator so it stays thawed out.  If you have a Turkey already frozen, you should put it into the refrigerator 2 days before you are going to cook it.  You might even need 3 days if you have around a 16 pound Turkey.  The fridge is the best method to thaw the bird- you don’t want it to be sitting on the counter heading towards room temperate at any point.

If you are busy during the Holidays, like most people, your Turkey might end up frozen until the day before or the day of.  Place your Turkey in your kitchen sink and fill it will cold water.  You will have to change/add water routinely throughout the day to keep the water at a steady cold temperature.  This process will usually take from 6-8 hours for a large bird.

  1. I was just thinking that I don’t really have room in my fridge for a Turkey for a few days. Might have to put the thing on my deck the day before and hope that it’s just above freezing. :-)
