Beef with Paprika and Yogurt
Beef with Paprika and Yogurt is a hearty and flavorful dish that combines the richness of beef with the creaminess of yogurt and the subtle sweetness of paprika. This recipe serves 4-6 people and can be made with either beef or pork.
Ingredients
- 1200 gr beef (such as beef shank or beef shin)
- 3 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 1 teaspoon sweet paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper (optional)
- 2 red bell peppers, chopped
- 1 cup chopped fresh tomatoes or canned crushed tomatoes
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour or cornstarch
- Salt to taste
- 1 cup yogurt
Instructions
- Cut the beef into bite-sized pieces.
- Heat the olive oil in a large, shallow Dutch oven over medium heat.
- Add the chopped onion and cook, stirring constantly, until it becomes translucent and slightly caramelized, about 6-7 minutes.
- Add the beef to the pot and cook, stirring occasionally, until it releases its juices and starts to brown, about 10 minutes.
- Add the chopped bell peppers, paprika, and black pepper (if using) to the pot.
- Stir in the chopped tomatoes and add salt to taste.
- Cover the pot with a lid and simmer over low heat for 1 hour and 15 minutes, or until the beef is tender.
- In a small bowl, mix the flour or cornstarch with 2 tablespoons of water until smooth.
- Add the yogurt to the bowl and stir until well combined.
- Remove some of the cooking liquid from the pot and add it to the bowl, stirring until smooth.
- Return the yogurt mixture to the pot and stir to combine.
