Λεχματζούν Recipe
Introduction
Λεχματζούν is a traditional Greek dish that can be served as a snack or appetizer. It consists of small pies filled with a mixture of minced meat, onions, tomatoes, and spices, topped with melted butter.
Ingredients
- 8 small bread rolls or 8 medium-sized pita breads or 1 package of individual pita breads
- 350g minced lamb or mixed lamb and beef
- 2 onions, finely chopped
- 2 tomatoes, peeled, seeded, and finely chopped
- 2 tbsp chopped fresh parsley
- 2 cloves garlic, minced (optional)
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper
- 2 tbsp butter
- Lemon wedges for serving
Instructions
- Place the minced meat on a cutting board and add the chopped onion, tomato, garlic, parsley, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper.
- Using a knife, chop the ingredients together until they are well combined and the mixture has changed color.
- It’s ideal to refrigerate the mixture for a while to allow the flavors to meld.
- Preheat the oven to 200-220°C.
- Place a small amount of the meat mixture on each pita bread, leaving a small border around the edges.
- Bake the λεχματζούν in the preheated oven for about 15 minutes, or until the pita bread is golden brown.
- Remove the λεχματζούν from the oven and brush with melted butter.
- Serve hot, with a squeeze of lemon juice if desired.
